Curriculum
Vitae: Studied musicology and history at
Charles University in Prague (1950–1955) and took the diploma
with a study of the hymns of the Union of the Bohemian Brethren (Příspěvky ke zpěvu Jednoty
bratrské). In 1969 he took the doctorate at Prague
University with a
dissertation on the oldest printed hymnbook from Bohemia
(1501).
Subsequently he worked as assistant lecturer at the Department of musicology
of Charles University in Prague, later
moving to the Institute of Musicology of the Czechoslovak
Academy of Sciences (1965–91); in 1975 he became executive editor of Hudební
věda (until 1988). His particular areas of research are Czech
hymnology and the history of Czech music in the 15th and 16th centuries.
